About Me
I have been making knives professionally since 2006 and I am also a practicing farrier since 1997. One of my greatest passions and interest is in making Damascus/pattern welded steel, if I am using it for a knife or sword blade, it will only be from the finest carbon steels available as every knife/blade I make is made to be used. All my knives are completely hand made, and I make all my own Damascus steel. All my own designs (unless a customer supplies a design request) are manufactured by me and I don't use templates to make them or replicate them. The making of each one of my knives is unique and exclusive where some may be similar but never the same. I mostly make hunters, bowies and folding knives, however I don't limit myself and I have made swords, daggers and various other tools.
I normally make all my blades by forging to shape and sometimes by the stock removal method if there is a particular pattern I wish to create and retain within the pattern welding.
I heat treat all my own knives using either the forge or an electric furnace to obtain the best performance from the specific type of steel or steels that I am using. This may include a cryo quench (normally required for stainless steels).
Steels I Use
I prefer carbon steels as they can be heat treated to be very resilient but very very sharp with good edge retention and yet easy to sharpen. The steels I like to use are: W2 that can be heat treated to give a beautiful "hamon" (hardening line), O1 a tough and user friendly steel, Silver steel and most of the 10 series steels. I sometimes use various stainless steels: 440c, 12c27 and D2 (semi stainless) to name a few.
The main steels I use for my Damascus are 15n20 and 20C/Cs70, and various other steels in san mai laminate Damascus be it motorcycle chain or 52100 ball bearing steel etc.
Handle Materials
I use a variety of synthetic and natural materials. Most of my blade handles are made of the more exotic hardwood burls or I like to use stabilized woods or synthetic (micarta G10 etc) but I can and have made handles from a variety of animal bones, horn, antler etc... For bolsters and fittings, stainless steel is used, damascus, mokume, nickel silver, brass. I can also use sterling silver, gold or precious and semi precious stones upon request.
